The Pepe Reina saga took a fresh twist with Geronimo Rulli of Real Sociedad admitting that there has been contact about a move to Napoli.

According to a report in The Chronicle the Sociedad keeper was happy that Napoli asked about him which is bound to muddy the waters in any new deal for Reina.

Newcastle have been linked with a move for the former Liverpool keeper who played under Rafa Benitez at Anfield.

Despite having three experienced keepers at pre-season training yesterday it is believed that bringing in a commanding keeper is a transfer priority for Benitez.

Newcastle have been linked with Joe Hart and Willie Caballero but it’s understood that Reina, who has a year left on his Napoli deal, has always been Benitez’s first choice keeper.

Napoli have offered the Spanish keeper a 12 month extension taking him through until 2019 but Reina is looking for a contract through until 2020 which Newcastle are likely to offer.
