Alex Gilliead is on his way back to Bradford City on loan.

According to a report in The Chronicle the winger is on his way back to the Yorkshire club who lost out in the Championship Play Off final last season.

Gilliead spent the first half of last season on loan at Luton before stepping up a division in January to work with Stuart McCall.

The former Everton and Rangers midfielder made the winger a priority signing for the new season with Newcastle happy to arrange a six month deal that will be reviewed in January.

With Newcastle returning to the Premier League the bar has been raised for the young players hoping to make the breakthrough into Benitez’s side.

Gilliead is rated as one of the best prospects in Peter Beardsley’s reserve squad but will need to make a big impression at Bradford to stand a chance of making the breakthrough at St James’ Park.
