Kieran Gibbs and Carl Jenkinson have both been left out of Arsenal’s 25 man squad for the pre-season tour of Australia and China.

According to a report in The Chronicle both players have been linked with moves to Newcastle as Rafa Benitez looks for tried and tested Premier League players.

After signing a new two year contract at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was instructed to reduce the size of his first team squad.

Although they don’t pay the highest individual wages Arsenal’s total wage bill is believed to be the highest in the country with around 30 players on first team money.

Gibbs and Jenkinson are both in the final year of their contracts with little prospect of a fresh offer coming in to stay at The Emirates.

Rather than sit out the final season of their Arsenal deals both players are likely to be sold during the transfer window with Gibbs in particular not short of interested parties.
