Middlesbrough are still interested in signing Karl Darlow.

According to a report in The Northern Echo Garry Monk is preparing a fresh bid for the Newcastle keeper after having an offer of £5m rejected.

Darlow established himself as Newcastle’s first choice last season but Rafa Benitez has made it clear that he is looking for a new keeper in the Premier League.

Moves for Willy Caballero and Joe Hart failed to deliver while Manchester City look close to bringing Pepe Reina to the Etihad.

Darlow was left out of the Newcastle squad that travelled to Ireland for pre-season training with Benitez opting to work with Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman. Tim Krul was also left out of the squad for Ireland.

With Reading also believed to be interested in Darlow Newcastle are hoping to bring in £8m for the former Nottingham Forest keeper with that money going towards signing a new number one.
