Today will be Decision Day for many players on the fringes of the Newcastle first team squad.
With pre-season training resuming today players will get the first indication of where they stand in Rafa Benitez’s thoughts for the new season.
The Newcastle boss would have preferred to have had half a dozen new signings to view today but that won’t alter his opinion on the players that won promotion or those that he sent out on loan.
Tim Krul and Siem de Jong will be among the biggest names to be judged with both players likely to be told that they’ll be training with the reserve/u-23 squad until they can find new clubs.
Upto a dozen players are likely to be out of Benitez’s plans but until he has replacements signed up Benitez will need to be cautious as he prepares for the return of top tier football to St James’ Park.
