Spurs are resigned to paying Moussa Sissoko to leave White Hart Lane.

A year ago Newcastle ‘reluctantly’ agreed a £30m transfer fee with Everton but Spurs stepped in at the last minute and took the Frenchman to White Hart Lane.

That fee helped balance the books for Rafa Benitez’s promotion bid with Spurs paying out a weekly wage of £85,000 to their record signing.

After an indifferent season that ended in relegation Newcastle were delighted to move the midfielder on with the fee based mainly on a couple of above average performances at Euro 2016.

According to a report in the Daily Mail big spending Marseilles have made an enquiry to Spurs about Sissoko but have failed to follow up their interest by tabling a bid for the 27-year-old who only started seven Premier League matches last season.

A loan deal to France seems most likely with no club in England prepared to take on the player and his incredible salary demands.
