Newcastle have been dealt a second midfielder blow in two days with Huddersfield Town signing Tom Ince from Derby I an £11m deal.

Today’s news comes 24 hours after Fulham got Tom Cairney to sign a new deal keeping him at the London club until 2021.

Newcastle had been linked with both players in the second half of last season but have found the pricing on the high side with Fulham putting a £20m price tag on Cairney.

Rafa Benitez has expressed a preference for signing players experienced in the UK game but Cairney and Ince have spent most of their days outside of the Premier League.

With the long anticipated deal to sign defender Florian Lejeune expectations will switch to elsewhere in the team as Benitez attempts to put together a squad ready for the Premier League.

Despite attention being focussed on a new goalkeeper Benitez is looking to strengthen every area of his squad.
