Newcastle have been linked with a move for Orestis Karnezis.

According to a report in The Sun the Udinese keeper could be on his way to Newcastle in a £3.6m move.

Karnezis has spent three seasons with Udinese in Serie A and would welcome the opportunity of a big money move to England.

Bringing in an experienced keeper to battle with Rob Elliot for the goalkeepers jersey is a priority for Rafa Benitez.

The Newcastle boss started the transfer window hoping to sign Willie Caballero or Joe Hart but has been unable to bring in a high profile keeper.

A swap deal involving Karl Darlow and West Ham keeper Adrian was discussed last week but at £3.6m Greek internationalist Karnezis represents outstanding value after Benitez recently described the transfer market as crazy.

With two weeks to go till the opening Premier League fixture Benitez is looking to bring in a keeper this week.
