Newcastle are in talks with Middlesbrough to bring Adama Traore to St James’ Park.
According to a report in The Chronicle the Spaniard has been discussed as the two clubs negotiate a deal to take Kark Darlow to the Riverside.
Traore only joined ‘Boro last summer from Aston Villa but after quitting Villa Park to avoid relegation he’s unlikely to be keen on next season in the Championship.
Garry Monk is looking to put together a battle ready squad to bounce straight back to the top flight and is prepared to sacrifice Traore to bring in Darlow who is wanted by a couple of Championship rivals.
Benitez’s priority is in Newcastle’s plight with Traore impressing the Newcastle boss despite being involved in two relegation campaigns.
Having started his career at Barcelona Benitez is confident that he can get the 21-year-old back to that level again while establishing Newcastle in the top flight again.
