Newcastle are expected to step up their interest in Adrian.

According to a report in The Chronicle Rafa Benitez wants to bring in the West Ham keeper to compete with Rob Elliot for the goalkeeping position.

Adrian’s career at West Ham is effectively over with the loan signing of Joe Hart from Manchester City.

Bringing in a goal keeper and a striker are the priority signings for Benitez with the goalkeeping position likely to be quickly resolved.

With Darren Randolph moving to Middlesbrough at the weekend West Ham are on the look out for a back up keeper with Karl Darlow under consideration.

Darlow was left out of the Newcastle squad that faced Bradford City last night and could be used in a part exchange deal to bring Adrian to St James’ Park.

If Adrian is signed Newcastle would be able to arrange a loan deal for Freddie Woodman with the England u20 keeper wanted by a number of clubs.
