Aleksandar Mitrovic is in no rush to quit Newcastle.

Despite speculation linking him with moves to Fenerbahce and Lyon the Serbia striker told The Chronicle that he is looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League.

Mitrovic spent last season mainly as back-up to Dwight Gayle and has failed to live up to expectations since moving from Anderlecht two seasons ago.

I am happy here,” he said. “We will see what has happened by the end of the transfer window but at the moment I am here and I will do everything to work hard like I always do.”

With Daryl Murphy joining Nottingham Forest and Newcastle slow to bring in new faces Mitrovic may be given the chance to make an impact in a black and white shirt.

Bringing in the quality of striker that Rafa Benitez is looking for would cost around £30m which is more than the combined fees of Gayle and Mitrovic.

Lyon were quoted a fee of £16m for the striker with all eyes tomorrow looking in on the Newcastle side that faces Preston North End at Deepdale for indicators towards Benitez’s first choice XI.
