Social media has been alive to barbs from Newcastle and Sunderland fans as the merits, or otherwise, of the Spanish defender.
While Newcastle set the pace with a black and white picture of the defender one fan decided to compare and contrast Manquillo on arrival at each club.

Last season the former Atletico Madrid defender started 15 Premier League games for Sunderland.
It was almost a doomed journey from day one with Sunderland rarely looking like climbing out of the relegation places.
Pinning any blame on Manquillo would be harsh but there were no tears from the Stadium of Light when he returned to the Spanish capital.
With a three year contract signed today Rafa Benitez certainly trusts the defender, with Atletico Madrid and Liverpool on his CV Newcastle fans are more than happy to overlook last season in red and white.
