Sean Dyche has added to the pressure to Newcastle’s transfer struggles by claiming that Burnley can’t compete against the budget that Rafa Benitez has.

According to a report in The Chronicle the Burnley boss can’t get close to players once Newcastle get involved although few Toon fans will be agreeing with that opinion at the moment.

Converting Christian Atsu’s loan into a permanent move from Chelsea is the only deal completed so far with Newcastle back in for pre-season training on Monday.

Dyche kept Burnley well clear of relegation last season after winning promotion with that sort of campaign providing the template for Newcastle next term.

Explaining Newcastle’s transfer advantage Dyche said: “They’ve got a fella behind them who is a billionaire, on 50,000 attendances and all the corporate and shirt sales.”

While Dyche is correct last season Burnley picked up just over £100m from television fees which was ten times what Newcastle got for winning The Championship.

With that money already available and the stability of Dyche in charge the transfer market not quite as straightforward as the Burnley boss likes to make out.
