While the keeper is looking for a three year contract with a hefty get out fee Reina is asking for a two year deal with a more modest get out clause.
The keeper has 12 months left on his current deal with Newcastle waiting in the wings to offer the sort of terms that the 34-year-old is looking for.
Benitez has already moved Matz Sels on to Anderlecht on loan but is looking for a new commanding keeper despite having three established number one’s at the club.
