Newcastle have been linked with a move for Martin Skrtel.
According to a report in The Chronicle the Fenerbahce defender could be on his way to St James’ Park to be reunited with Rafa Benitez.
Skrtel moved to the Turkish side last summer in a £7m move from Liverpool but it’s believed that Fenerbahce are prepared to sell the defender to reduce their wage bill.
Weekend reports of Benitez being frustrated at the lack of transfer progress is bound to be in the spotlight but a move for Skrtel should be less complicated due to the relationship that already exists between the two men.
The Newcastle boss is looking to reduce the risks involved in his transfer dealings by recruiting players familiar with playing in the Premier League.
Skrtel spent nine seasons at Anfield and would be able to slot straight into the Newcastle side as they attempt to stabilise in the top division.
