The Chronicle believe that Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez will allow at least nine players to leave the club this summer if the Magpies receive good enough offers.

The paper’s football editor Mark Douglas says that Grant Hanley, Achraf Lazaar, Tim Krul, Daryl Murphy, Siem De Jong, Matz Sels, Emmanuel Riviere, Henri Saivet and Jesus Gamez will all be made available for transfer as Newcastle look to revamp their squad for the new season.

None of the names on the list are very surprising. Riviere has struggled during his spell in Spain with Osasuna, but the La Liga club are unlikely to activate their purchase option. Saivet is not wanted at Saint-Etienne despite featuring prominently on loan this season, while Tim Krul has found it tough during two loan spells at Ajax and AZ Alkmaar. All three players could be difficult to offload.

The other six names will be easier to sell. Hanley has suitors in the Championship, specifically Derby County. Lazaar will likely have interest in Italy after his displays at his previous club Palermo, while Jesus Gamez could possibly return to La Liga.

After a disappointing first season at St James’ Park, Matz Sels may be sold or sent out on loan with the Belgian international almost certain to attract clubs in his homeland and on the continent. De Jong will also likely return home, while Daryl Murphy should have a pick of Championship sides to choose from after performing relatively well for the Magpies.
