Newcastle are interested in signing Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi on loan, according to Het Nieuwsblad (via Voetbal24.be).

The Belgian newspaper say the Magpies are looking at the 23 year old with manager Rafa Benitez keen to strengthen his forward line for the Premier League. The Spaniard is reportedly after two strikers to support the club’s top goalscorer Dwight Gayle, who struggled with hamstring injuries in the second half of the Championship season.

West Ham have been pursuing a deal for the Belgian international since last summer before he decided to join Chelsea for £33million. The forward has since struggled to command a place in Antonio Conte’s side and could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge even after scoring the winning goal that sealed the Premier League title against West Brom last week.

This season, Batshuayi has managed just one Premier League start; that came against Watford in the 4-3 win on Monday night. In all competitions this campaign, the forward has scored seven goals in 26 appearances, with just seven starts.
