Newcastle are interested in Chelsea left back Baba Rahman, according to the Mirror. The 22 year old has been on loan with Schalke 04 in Germany this season, and could well be a target for the Magpies boss Rafa Benitez in the summer.
The newspapers reports that Rahman’s countryman, and fellow team mate at Chelsea, Christian Atsu recommended the full back to Benitez, but there are some major obstacles to any move going ahead.
It seems that the left back may well be part of Chelsea manager Antonio Conte’s first team plans for next season as they look to strengthen their squad for Champions League football.
With Chelsea keen to keep the player, it is likely they will expect a comparable fee to the £22million in total they paid for the player back in 2015, which could put off the Magpies.
In addition, Rahman is still recovering from a serious knee injury picked up on international duty back in January, and will not have played a competitive match for seven months by the start of next season. Whether shelling out a significant sum of money on an injured player is likely, we will find out soon enough.
