Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman says he is unsure whether he will be given game time with the Magpies next season, and he believes manager Rafa Benitez may ask him to go out on loan once again.

The England Under 21 international has spent the second half of the season on loan at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock, and he told the Daily Record he doesn’t know what the future holds for him:

“I’m at Kilmarnock and people ask me all the time if I’m going back but I don’t know. I’m delighted Newcastle are back in the Premier League. The club deserve it.”

“But the manager said I needed experience and he might think I need some more next season because the Premier League is massive and you need to be some keeper to play in that league.”

The 20 year old has managed to displace Killies’ number one goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald in the side since his move in January, and has played 14 matches in all competitions, conceding 15 and keeping four clean sheets in the process.

He will have a battle on his hands back at St James’ Park next season with four senior goalkeepers: Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot, Matz Sels and Tim Krul all expected to be present for pre-season training in July. Krul’s and Sels’s futures are uncertain but Woodman would still have an uphill battle to begin next season as the club’s number one.
