Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson has told the BBC that he won’t force a move away from the Liberty Stadium, suggesting any club will have to meet the Welsh club’s asking price.

The Icelandic international signed a new contract with the Swans last summer after being pursued by Everton for most of the close season, and it is likely the 27 year old will be subject to more transfer speculation over the next few months after an excellent campaign in the Premier League.

The midfielder was linked to a move to Newcastle by the Sun at the end of March, but local newspaper the Chronicle dismissed the transfer talk at the time. Sigurdsson says he is trying to focus on his football:

“I’m not desperate to go or anything. It’s not like I want to go. It’s just very calm and I’m not focused or concentrating on what people are writing.”

Sigurdsson’s form in the Premier League this season has been excellent. He has scored nine goals and provided 13 assists in 37 league matches this season. Other clubs including Everton and West Ham are said to be pursuing the player.

The Magpies meanwhile have been more closely associated with other playmakers in recent days with Fulham’s Tom Cairney and Huddersfield Town midfielder Aaron Mooy believed to be on the radar.
