Newcastle left back Paul Dummett believes the club should be proud of the fact that they have returned to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Barely a quarter of relegated Premier League teams are promoted from the Championship the following season and the defender is quoted by the Chronicle as saying it isn’t an easy thing to do:

“We all have to be proud of this. It’s not an easy task to go back the first time. Look back over the years – it doesn’t happen all of the time. We knew it would be tough, but I think we deserve where we are and the points suggest that. We can enjoy the summer but we will be back for next season raring to go in July for pre-season.”

The Magpies can wrap up a satisfactory season by claiming the Championship title if they better current league leaders Brighton’s result on Sunday. Newcastle face a marginally easier fixture, facing the league’s surprise package Barnsley at home, while the Seagulls face a trip to Villa Park to face Aston Villa.

Going into the last match of the season against the Magpies, Paul Heckingbottom’s side sit 14th in the Championship table with 58 points from 45 games, but they head into the game after four matches without a win, drawing 1-1 against Burton Albion at home last time out.
