Former Newcastle midfielder Mehdi Abeid says he does not regret making the move to Newcastle back in 2011 despite failing to make the grade with the Magpies.

The Algerian international made 21 appearances for Newcastle between 2011 and 2015 after joining as a youth player from Lens, and is now plying his trade with Ligue One side Dijon. Asked about his time in England by France Football magazine, the 24 year old said:

“When I make a choice, in my life, I do not regret anything. These are experiences that have enabled me to forge a career. I have known many countries, different football, different cultures. It’s a great learning experience.”

Abeid was loaned out to St Johnstone and Panathanaikos before making an impressive Premier League debut against Liverpool in 2014. He was then given a second successive start against West Brom before a succession of injuries hindered his game time, making 13 league appearances during the 2014/15 season.

At the end of that campaign he was shipped off to Greece permanently with Panathanaikos before making the switch back to France at the start of this season. He has so far made 25 appearances for Dijon, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
