Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez’s first meeting with Mike Ashley seems to have gone well, according to the Chronicle.

There are no suggestions so far that the former Napoli coach will walk away, and the fact that Ashley set up a meeting within days of the end of the Championship season suggests the club is keen on meeting Benitez’s demands.

The Spaniard was back at the club’s training ground on Wednesday morning which suggests that the Magpies boss is intending to stay on, but it looks certain that there will be more talks in the coming days as Rafa and the club’s owner work out a long term strategy for the club.

The Chronicle report that the club’s summer transfer budget is not the only item on the agenda in the meetings with Ashley. Benitez is said to have a whole host of ideas to ensure Newcastle become a firmly established Premier League club once again.

The Magpies manager is said to be wanting to get his squad for the Premier League in place early on so he can work with them on the training pitch. Six to eight signings are expected this summer, and it looks like the club are aiming to get them all in the door as soon as possible.
