Newcastle will target a move for Leicester City’s Wes Morgan before turning their attentions to Harry Maguire, according to the Sun.

The Foxes captain has a contract until 2019, but is waiting to see whether the club want him to be remain a regular first team player next season before making any decision on his future.

The centre back is now 33, and despite striking up a formidable partnership with Robert Huth at the heart of the Leicester defence which helped them to the Premier League title last season, injury and loss of form means his future at the club is not certain.

If the Foxes do seek out younger defenders to replace Morgan, Newcastle could step in to snap up the centre half. The Chronicle however report that Hull City’s Maguire is the club’s preferred target for a new centre back with the Tigers’ relegation to the Championship hastening the 24 year old’s departure.

The Magpies will face stiff competition for the defender with Tottenham, Everton and Liverpool all believed to be looking at the centre half with the player entering the last 12 months of his contract at the Kcom stadium.
