PSV Eindhoven are not keen on signing Newcastle midfielder Siem De Jong on a permanent deal, according to the Shields Gazette.

The former Ajax player was loaned back to the Eredivisie at the beginning of the season to get more first team football. He however failed to gain a regular starting place, with PSV manager Philip Cocu only picking him to start in five matches in all competitions before the New Year.

De Jong did begin to establish himself in the second half of the season and eventually made 11 starts, making  24 appearances in total, scoring six goals and providing one assist.

The 28 year old however started on the bench for three of the last four games, and it is clear there is no appetite from the Dutch club to retain the attacking midfielder’s services.

The Netherlands international will return to Tyneside for pre-season training but his future at the Magpies is uncertain, and he will likely be loaned out once again unless he can convince manager Rafa Benitez that he can contribute in the Premier League.
