Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu has refused to say whether he will join the Magpies on a permanent basis at the end of the season.

The Ghanaian international is on a season long loan from Chelsea, and has been given game time by manager Rafa Benitez after struggling for matches in previous loan spells at Everton and Bournemouth.

When asked about his future, the 25 year old said he is focusing on getting Newcastle promoted back to the Premier League. He is quoted by the Chronicle as saying:

“We will see what happens after the season. We have fought so hard this season – this is what we wanted. We want to keep winning games. We do not want to give away what we have fought for from the start of the season. For that reason we will keep working hard, keep fighting.”

Atsu has made 31 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing two assists, but he has only started 11 games for the Magpies which may leave the winger questioning whether he will be given game time if Newcastle are promoted to the Premier League.

The Chronicle report that Benitez is indeed targeting a winger as one of six first team signings in the summer. Whether that will be Atsu or another target, that remains to be seen.
