Valencia may target Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez as their next head coach, according to Fichajes.net.

The Spaniard had incredible success during his spell as the La Liga club’s manager between 2001 and 2004, winning two league titles and the UEFA Cup, and it seems they are seeking a return to their glory days with a potential approach for Benitez.

The Spanish side have struggled since the arrival of Singaporean businessman Peter Lim as owner with four coaches in the last two seasons. Caretaker manager Voro has stabilised the ship once again, and they now lie in 13th place in the league table, but he doesn’t want the job on a permanent basis despite his excellent record as manager.

Fichajes.net report that Valencia are considering Celta Vigo boss Eduardo Berizzo as one of the potential options for their next permanent manager, but they also suggest that former boss Benitez could also be considered for the position.
