Newcastle left back Massadio Haidara has told Newcastle’s matchday programme (quotes via the Shields Gazette) that he has been fit for three months, and is seeking more game time with the Magpies.

The Frenchman says his personal ambition for this season is to play just one more game for the first team:

“The first thing is we have to be promoted, if I play or not. After, for myself, it’s about trying to play some games. Even if it’s only one, I would be happy because it would be a good win for me – I would reach my target. This would be a great thing. I feel alright. Now I feel ready. I’ve been available for the first team for about three months now. I’m just waiting for my chance.”

The 24 year old featured on the bench against Burton Albion last night for the first time since January. After recovering from a knee injury, he made two appearances in the FA Cup against Birmingham City and Oxford United, while also being included in the squad for the 4-0 win over Rotherham United.

Since then however he has only played for Peter Beardsley’s Under 23 side. First choice left back Paul Dummett has been picked by manager Rafa Benitez throughout the season, while his deputy Achraf Lazaar has, like Haidara, struggled for game time. The Moroccan international has not made a matchday squad since the 2-0 home win over Aston Villa back in late February.
