Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross may reject the chance to stay at the Potters this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The 29 year old has a year left on his contract at the Bet365 stadium but he looks to be favouring a move away from the Premier League side.

Shawcross joined Stoke on loan before joining the club permanently from Manchester United in 2008. Since then he has been made club captain, been capped by England and racked up 377 appearances during his ten year spell.

Stoke are keen to tie up a new deal for Shawcross with manager Mark Hughes saying the club want to “re-contract him” and that any move away from the team is “pure speculation”

Newcastle are seeking to strengthen the spine of the team for next season with manager Rafa Benitez reportedly after six summer signings for the first team with a centre back believed to be one of the positions that is being looked at.

The Daily Mail do report however that Championship promotion rivals Brighton & Hove Albion, and current Premier League champions Leicester City may also make an offer for Shawcross.
