Newcastle are interested in Inter Milan goalkeeper Ionut Radu, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The Italian website do report however that Serie A club Cagliari are also tracking the Romanian.
Another added complication is the fact that Inter are keen on keeping the 19 year old as backup for first choice keeper Samir Handanovic. The Slovenian is now 32 years of age, and it seems Radu is seen as the current number one’s long term successor.
Radu made his debut for Inter at the back end of last season, playing the full 90 minutes in the 3-1 defeat to Sassuolo last May. He has missed most of this season with a shoulder injury, but returned to action at Under 19 level nine days ago, playing from the start against Frosinone as Inter won 2-1.
With the number of goalkeepers on Newcastle’s books, a move for Radu would be a surprise. Manager Rafa Benitez has kept in close contact with Freddie Woodman during his loan spell at Kilmarnock, and the 20 year old is one of the club’s brightest young prospects having already played regularly for England’s Under 21s.
