Marseille have had scouts watching Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez in a number of matches this season, according to Espoirs du Football.

The French website report that the Spaniard has impressed the Ligue One side with his performances but it is not known whether they will follow up their apparent interest with a summer bid.

Perez was on the bench for the Magpies’ 2-1 victory against Wigan Athletic at the weekend, and has been left out of the starting eleven on a number of occasions this season by manager Rafa Benitez.

The 23 year old has been utilised in the number 10 position this campaign, but he has had to compete for a place in the side with summer signing Mo Diame. The Senegalese star was once again chosen ahead of the Spaniard on Saturday and it has meant Perez has only started 19 league games this season.

Despite his lack of league starts, Perez has still managed nine goals and six assists in all competitions this campaign.
