Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul says he is focused on playing for AZ until the end of the season.
The Dutch international signed a new one year contract extension before being sent out on loan in the summer. His first loan spell at Ajax didn’t work out too well for Krul, but since switching clubs to fellow Eredivisie side AZ in February, the 28 year old has managed to play more regularly.
Talking to AZ’s fan page, Krul said he isn’t looking too far ahead into the future, but says he is in contact with Magpies boss Rafa Benitez, and is keeping a close eye on his parent’s club’s progress:
“I do not feel like that now is the time to think about it. I have a one-year contract at Newcastle. That’s how it is. But I’d rather focus on the upcoming matches with AZ… We [him and Benitez] often speak together and he keeps a close eye. It’s just an extra motivation to win games here…
“Of course I hope Newcastle are promoted. They are now second behind Brighton, but ultimately the main [priority is] promotion. If they play I try to watch and I’m a supporter watching on television.”
Krul has made 11 appearances in all competitions for AZ since making his debut against PSV Eindhoven in a 4-2 defeat. He has so far conceded 18 goals, and kept three clean sheets. His side are currently sixth in the Eredivisie table, having taken 43 points from 30 games.
