Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has ruled out the possibility of joining Newcastle in the future.

The United veteran was a boyhood fan of the Magpies after growing up in the area, but he doesn’t think he will ever put on the black and white shirt.

Speaking to Match of the Day magazine (quotes via the Chronicle), the former England international says the time has passed for him to consider a switch to Tyneside:

“No, I think that’s passed now. When I was a kid I was supporting Newcastle, I dreamt one day I would do but I count myself very fortunate to have played for Manchester United for so long.”

“It’s just one of those things where you can’t have everything. If and when I finish here (Manchester United), that will probably be it I think.”

Carrick’s current deal at United expires at the end of the season, but he is still playing regularly for the Red Devils, having played 27 times in all competitions this campaign, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

In the interview, Carrick went on to comment that he “won’t be playing for another club in England” hinting that he will either stay at United or will consider a move abroad when his contract expires in the summer.
