Newcastle defender Curtis Good may have suffered another major injury which could end his season, according to the Chronicle, but Under 23 manager Peter Beardsley has said he is hopeful of a better than expected diagnosis.

The centre back was sidelined for 18 months with a serious hip injury before returning to action last March. He has worked his way back to full match fitness this season, playing mostly in the Under 23s.

His performances were however noticed by manager Rafa Benitez who picked him to play in the 3-0 defeat to Oxford United in the FA Cup back in late January.

Beardsley has praised the 24 year old’s performances in recent matches and after the player sustained his latest injury in the second half in the 1-0 defeat to Reading yesterday, he said:

“I’m hoping it’s minor. At this level, if they get injured, we take them off. We don’t hesitate.”

An Andriya Novakovic penalty for the Royals knocked the Magpies out of the Premier League Cup as Reading progressed to the semi-finals of the competition.
