defender may have suffered another major which could end his season, according to the Chronicle, but Under 23 manager Peter has said he is hopeful of a better than expected diagnosis.

The centre back was sidelined for 18 months with a serious hip injury before returning to action last March. He has worked his way back to full match this season, playing mostly in the Under 23s.

His performances were however noticed by manager Rafa Benitez who picked him to play in the 3-0 defeat to Oxford United in the back in late .

Beardsley has praised the 24 year old’s performances in recent matches and after the player sustained his latest injury in the second half in the 1-0 defeat to Reading yesterday, he said:

“I’m hoping it’s minor. At this level, if they get injured, we take them off. We don’t hesitate.”
