Newcastle are set to rival promoted Brighton for Arsenal full back Carl Jenkinson, according to the Mirror.

The 25 year old has been on the fringes of the Gunners’ first team since his return from a serious knee injury back in October. He was poised to move to Crystal Palace in the January transfer window but the transfer broke down.

The England international will have just one year left on his contract in the summer, and he looks to have no future at the Emirates where manager Arsene Wenger has used centre back Gabriel as back up for first choice Hector Bellerin in the right back position this campaign.

Jenkinson has made just one Premier League appearance this season, coming back in November in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United. He has also featured for the Gunners in the Champions League and the EFL Cup, but he hasn’t made the bench since the 5-0 win over Southampton in the FA Cup back in late January. Since then he has had to settle for playing for the Under 23 side.

Any move to Newcastle will likely depend on the Magpies securing promotion back to the Premier League.
