Newcastle have made a move for Everton centre back Josef Yarney after taking the 19 year old  on trial, according to the Chronicle.

The defender’s two year professional contract at the Merseyside club is coming to an end, and he won’t be offered a new deal to remain at the Toffees.

Yarney was named on the bench for Newcastle Under 23’s 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Friday, and he came on as a substitute in the second half for Peter Beardsley’ side as the young Magpies finished third in the second tier of Premier League 2.

The centre back has previously featured for Everton’s academy side in the EFL trophy this season but hasn’t played for the club’s first team. It seems manager Ronald Koeman doesn’t think the player has a future at the Premier League club.

Whether Peter Beardsley and manager Rafa Benitez think that Yarney has the potential to make it with the Magpies, we will have to wait and see.
