Newcastle winger Christian Atsu doesn’t believe that the Magpies should focus on why they have performed worse at home than away from St James’ Park this season.

The team’s defeat against Fulham on Saturday was their fifth at home in the league this season. In comparison, they have lost just three times on their travels this campaign, and have recently won at promotion rivals Huddersfield Town and Brighton in a run of away fixtures.

Atsu started against Fulham at the weekend, and provided the assist for Daryl Murphy’s consolation goal, but he doesn’t think the Magpies should be concerned by the latest home loss despite the lacklustre performance against the Cottagers. He wants the team to focus on one game at a time. He is quoted by the Evening Chronicle as saying::

“In a way but we’ve been unlucky in a lot of home games, that’s one of the reasons why our away form is better than our home form. That’s football but we need to make things right. We can’t start thinking of it as ‘home games’ and ‘away games’, we just have to focus on each game at a time.”

The Ghanaian international has begun to establish himself as a first team regular in recent games. He has started four out of the last five league matches, providing two assists.
