Newcastle are seeking to sign another striker in the summer, according to the Evening Chronicle.

The Magpies currently have four recognised forwards on the books, but Rafa Benitez is said to be seeking reinforcements in forward positions for the start of next season.

Top goalscorer Dwight Gayle has struggled with hamstring injuries throughout the campaign, and the Newcastle boss seems to be concerned about the other options he currently has at his disposal.

Ayoze Perez has been utilised in the number 10 role this campaign, while Daryl Murphy is 33 and will have just one year left on his contract at the end of the current campaign.

Aleksandar Mitrovic meanwhile has only scored six goals this season, and although it is believed both the player and the club want the forward to remain on Tyneside, Benitez seems to be seeking an alternative to strengthen his forward line. Meetings have already taken place, the Chronicle reports, about transfers for next season with a striker seemingly the top priority.
