Newcastle midfielder Siem De Jong says he would like to return to the Magpies next season, and play in the Premier League if the club is promoted.

The Dutch international is currently on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he is playing alongside his brother, and former Newcastle loanee, Luuk. During his two years at Tyneside, the 28 year old was struck with a number of serious injuries but he returned to his homeland in the summer in order to get game time.

Initially De Jong struggled for first team opportunities, but has has now started the last three games, scoring four goals in the process. After his goal secured a 1-0 win against Vitesse at the weekend, De Jong was asked by Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad about his future, the midfielder replied:

“The outcome of this season is not possible to predict, and therefore I do not look too far ahead. But I’ve already said that I would like to be at Newcastle United if the club are promoted.”

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez currently has two players who play in the number 10 position in Mo Diame and Ayoze Perez, but if De Jong keeps scoring like he has done for PSV in recent matches, he may still have a future at St James’ Park.
