Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is still adamant he would prefer Chief Scout Graham Carr not to be involved in transfer decisions, according to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail.

The Chronicle have reported that relations between Benitez and the club hierarchy have improved since the falling out over the lack of signings in the January transfer window. Carr was even present at the two meetings that Benitez has had recently about transfer targets for next season, but it seems things are not completely settled at St James’s Park with Hope describing Carr as one “stumbling block”.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley has reportedly been in contact with club officials to ascertain the state of relations between Benitez and the club. The Northern Echo reports that the Magpies boss’s strong relationship with managing director Lee Charnley could be important with the Spaniard now said to be happy with plans for the summer transfer window.

Writing in the Mail however, Hope says that although Benitez currently has no intention of leaving the club, he may consider a move to West Ham if the Magpies fail to get promoted to the Premier League.
