Newcastle United will not pursue a deal for Brentford midfielder Alan Judge after it was announced the Irish international has signed a new two year deal to remain at Griffin Park.

The Magpies pursued a deal for the 28 year old last summer despite the player being sidelined with a broken leg. It was anticipated that the attacking midfielder would return to action much earlier but he has yet to make a first team appearance for the Bees despite closing in on the last full month of the campaign.

A move was also considered for the player in the January transfer window, according to the Chronicle, but manager Rafa Benitez opted against making a bid with Judge lacking fitness and unlikely to contribute much to Newcastle’s Championship promotion challenge.

The midfielder was one of the division’s top performers last season with 14 goals and 12 assists in 39 games for Brentford in all competitions.
