Newcastle could be interested in making a move for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson, according the Chronicle.
It seems to be a very loose link though as they quote the source of the rumour as being the betting odds of Newcastle being the second likeliest destination if he leaves Teesside.
Whether Gibson would be a target for the Magpies in the summer, it remains to be seen. The 24 year old has been linked with a move to Manchester City over the last month, and was on standby to play for England for the matches against Germany and Lithuania this week.
Gibson’s team Middlesbrough are currently in the relegation zone, and after sacking manager Aitor Karanka, they are among the favourites to be relegated.
Boro do however have one of the best defences in the Premier League with Gibson playing an integral role in keeping it tight at the back, playing 31 matches in all competitions so far this campaign.
