Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden believes that the Magpies must change their attitude when playing in front of their home fans at St James’ Park.

Rafa Benitez’s side have been notably better away from home this season, and Hayden says this is partly due to the fact they are not starting games positively enough, and are giving their opponents chances to get a foothold in the game. He told the Shields Gazette:

“I think we just need to be on the front foot a little bit more, take the game to teams a little bit earlier, and the quicker we can get the goals, the quicker the games are over.”

Newcastle’s next game is at home against relegation threatened Wigan Athletic, who will go in to the encounter without a manager after sacking their second head coach of the season, Warren Joyce, earlier this month.

Hayden will be fit for the match after recovering full fitness. The 22 year old underwent ankle surgery at the end of February and has missed the last seven matches.

Manager Rafa Benitez will be glad to see one of his regular first team player’ return. Hayden has played 32 times in all competitions for the Magpies so far this season.
