Newcastle Under 23 coach Peter Beardsley believes that centre back Curtis Good is on a verge of a breakthrough to the Magpie’s first team after number of top class performances in recent months.

The Australian joined the club all the way back in 2012 but has had to battle back from a serious hip injury to re-establish himself at St James’ Park.

He was given an opportunity by manager Rafa Benitez in the 3-0 defeat to Oxford United in the FA Cup, and although it wasn’t the result he would have liked, the 24 year old has apparently kicked on after his first taste of first team action since a League Cup tie against Morecambe in 2013. Beardsley told the Shields Gazette:

“If I take a look at Curtis Good he is on another level at the moment… Curtis is in the manager’s thoughts. He obviously trusts him. The manager has spoken highly of him. Which is good for him. To think of where he was a year ago, with the hip problem, to where he is now, it is great. He looks like he should not be on the pitch for us. He looks above this level.”

Before his injury, Good had been playing out on loan at Bradford City and Dundee United  before his injury but his debut for the Australia national team in a friendly against Ecuador in 2014 turned into a nightmare. He was taken off in the second half with a hip problem and it kept him out of football for two years.
