USA Manager Bruce Arena has revealed that Newcastle right back DeAndre Yedlin will be out for five more weeks with a thigh muscle tear.

Yedlin travelled to Los Angeles to have the injury assessed by the USA team doctors, with international fixtures against Honduras and Panama scheduled for the end of the month, and Arena is quoted by the Evening Chronicle as saying:

“DeAndre has been in LA this past week and examined by our team doctors. We realise he is not going to be able to go to these next two matches against Honduras and Panama. It is likely he will be out for about five weeks. I would expect he will be back on the field for Newcastle right at the end of this season in April.”

It was initially thought that Yedlin would make a swift recovery from the injury but it has become apparent that the muscle tear is a lot worse than previously believed.

The 23 year old has already missed two matches against Reading and Fulham after having to be substituted earlier in the month in the 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town after he sustained the injury during the first 10 minutes of the match.

Full back Jesus Gamez and utility player Vurnon Anita will now be vying for first team selection when the Magpies face Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.
