Newcastle United are interested in Falkirk striker Connor McBride, according to the Sun (via the Daily Star).

Magpies scouts were reportedly impressed with the forward’s displays for the Scottish Championship club’s development side. Other than that there is very little known about the player, who has yet to make a first team appearance for Falkirk.

Newcastle are casting their net far and wide in their search for the club’s stars of the future. This season they have brought in six players from abroad into the club’s youth academy.

Spaniard Victor Fernandez is the latest name, after joining from Spanish lower league side UE Cornella in February, and it seems it will be a policy of Benitez to build a crop of young talent from various different nationalities that could possibly break into the first team.

The likeliest candidate to make a breakthrough currently is Adam Armstrong. The 20 year old is currently on a season long loan at fellow Championship side Barnsley, and scored the winner for the England Under 20s against France during the international break.
