Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson remains firmly in the sights of Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez despite suffering a serious knee injury last month, according to the Chronicle.

The Cherries frontman has been linked with a switch to St James’ Park in the past few months and it seems the Magpies are keeping an eye on the 25 year old in view to making a move for the striker in the summer.

Wilson had made 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals, before he suffered his second serious knee injury in the space of a year back in February.

He suffered a cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee after sustaining the injury in a training session, and was ruled out for the rest of the season. His previous injury, which occurred in September 2015, was sustained in his right knee. A six month layoff is expected, meaning he could be back for the start of the season if rehabilitation goes well.
