Having played his way through a run of poor form towards the end of 2016, the Scotland international seems to have found the sort of cutting edge that made him such a threat earlier on in the campaign. Most of what Newcastle do well flows through the ex-Bournemouth ace, so the idea of him missing big games is a scary one indeed.
Christian Astu is a capable replacement.
