Despite a largely unheralded arrival at Newcastle United over the course of the summer, Isaac Hayden has arguably been one of the signings of the season in the Championship.

After impressing on loan at Hull City last term, the former Arsenal midfielder has been instrumental in the Toon’s campaign thus far, forming an effective axis with the masterful Jonjo Shelvey at the base of Rafa Benitez’s 4-2-3-1 midfield.

So the recent news he would be missing up to a month of action, at this most crucial stage of the season, was a blow. Particularly considering his replacement will more than likely be Jack Colback, a man who has failed to convince, even in England’s second tier.

Not to be too disheartened by his recent surgery, Hayden has taken to Instagram to wish his teammates luck ahead of their crunch clash Aston Villa at St. James’ Park tonight. Oh Isaac, how we wish you were here.
