Though the January transfer window slammed shut just under a month ago, the news about deals in regards to Newcastle United keep coming, this time from Bleacher Report

They’ve revealed French giants Paris Saint-Germain FAILED in a shock swoop on Toon star Aleksandar Mitrovic, despite reportedly making a move for the Serbian over the course of the New Year period. The 22-year-old is understood to have attracted the interest of those at Parc de Princes, though top brass on Tyneside are said to have been against the idea of letting him leave halfway through the season.

Having failed to bring anyone in themselves, the Magpies endured a miserable January window themselves and doubt was cast over Rafa Benitez’s long-term position at St. James’ Park as a result. Still, that doubt has appeared to have lifted somewhat of late and Mitrovic will likely play a big role in their promotion push.

Top scorer Dwight Gayle has been ruled out for up to six games with a hamstring injury, so the Serbian will battle Daryl Murphy for the central striking berth.
